Skills Spotlight: Make a Loop-in-Loop Silver Chain
This course takes place for one day on Saturday 20th April 2024, from 10am to 4pm.
Learn how to make your own loop-in-loop chain in our bright and shiny jewellery making workshop in Birmingham. Different from our usual set-project courses, this 1-day Skills Spotlight jewellery class will teach you all the techniques to make a woven style of chain which you can complete (or make longer and longer!) in your own time at home, or in our Studio Sessions. A sleek and unique chain for you to work on and add to in the coming winter months.
This Improver 1+ level jewellery making course is suitable for students who have completed our Beginners course and ideally a few of our Improver classes (because you’ll be soldering tiny loops that are easily melted!). It takes place on one Saturday daytime from 10.00am-4.00pm, with a 1-hour break for lunch and plenty of nice cafes nearby to choose from. Adding to the skills that you have already learnt as a beginner, on this course you will learn to make and solder multiple large thin jumprings in batches. Once you’ve made a number of them, you will learn to weave them together and even them up to make a slinky silver chain. The tutor will show you all the steps to make your chain, for you to carry on with and complete outside of this one-day course. You will be provided with a printed handout in case you need a little reminder along the way, and to refer back to as you work on it some more!
You will need to bring reading glasses, if you wear them, and a notebook and pen.
This improvers course will work on your small-scale soldering and setting yourself up to make in batches, as well as giving you a project that you can carry on working on as and when you can fit it in. To keep class costs lower, the price of this course includes enough silver to make approx 20cm length of the chain (a bracelet, or half a necklace). If you can’t make this date, sign up to our Newsletter to find out first when the next round of courses are available to book.
