Wax-Carving: Make a Silver Pendant
This course takes place every Saturday for 3 weeks, starting Saturday 2nd October.
Learn how to make jewellery using wax-carving techniques, in our bright and shiny jewellery making workshop in Birmingham. You will learn to make a silver pendant with your choice of deep-relief design! A wonderful and personalised pendant for you to wear home at the end of the course or to give away as a gift.
This Improver Level 1 jewellery making course is suitable for students who have completed our Beginners course. It takes place over three consecutive Saturdays from 10.00am-4.00pm, with a 1-hour break for lunch and plenty of nice cafes nearby to choose from. Adding to the skills that you have already learnt as a beginner, you will start this course by moving away from metalwork, and into making from wax. First we’ll had a chat about when to use wax rather than metal, and you’ll have a bit of practice and experimentation on a few bits of wax. Then we’ll chat through your designs and get you started on your final design. The second day will be spent creating your final piece in wax, which will be taken for casting at the end of the day, and on the final day we will work on the silver piece that you get back from the casters, finishing it into your shiny silver piece of jewellery. You will be provided with a printed handout in case you need a little reminder along the way, and to refer back to if you’d like to make another! Each class takes you through the next stage of the process, so please make sure you can attend all the dates.
You will need to bring your own apron to class, along with reading glasses if you wear them and a notebook and pen.
This improvers course adds some completely new techniques to your skill-set, moving away from metalwork and into wax-carving (you will need your metalwork skills to finish your piece). Following on from this course, you could add to your skills by learning sweat-soldering on the Domed Pendant and Earring project, or stone-setting on our Stone-Set Stacking Rings course.
